Atomic and nuclear physics

Radioactivity is familiar to most people from nuclear power plants, but it is also something quite natural. The ambient air, for example, contains radioactive decay products of Radon. The students can detect these in a simple experiment. Radon can also be found in tap water and rainwater, depending on the region.

The human body has adapted well to this environmental radioactivity and can cope with it. This is called background radiation.
