Shown on the front is a complete nerve cell with cell body, dendrites and axon with myelin sheath, Ranvier nodes and pre-synaptic terminals. The demonstration neuron is particularly well suited to demonstrate the operating principle of motor nerve cells (summation of below-threshold stimuli, electronic propagation of potentials, node leaping etc.). Action potentials may be tapped off at the axon.

  • 7 inputs with different weighting factors concerning the incoming stimuli depending on the distance from the axon hump (electrotonic propagation)
  • 1 output for inhibiting impulses (red)
  • 1 output for stimulating impulses (green)
  • 5 sites for tapping off action potentials at the Ranvier nodes, each with a green LED (leaping conduction) and ground socket for measurements using an oscilloscope or a computer
  • 1 socket at the axon hump for measurement of the generator potential
  • 7 LEDs in the synapses for demonstrating the release of neurotransmitters.
