Description

In this experiment students will learn the difference between a physical process and a chemical reaction. Paraffin and sucrose are heated. Using the new substance that is formed when sugar is carbonised the students learn that a new substance is always formed in a chemical reaction.

In addition, the reversibility of the two processes can be discussed. Physical processes are usually reversible and chemical reactions are often irreversible. Nevertheless, there are exceptions.
