Description

When strong acids and strong alkalis react with one another, energy is given off to the surroundings in the form of heat - the so-called 'heat of neutralisation'.
In experiment C4.3.3.3, measured quantities of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide at the same temperature are neutralised together. The temperature increase DT is measured and from that result the quantity of heat QP is calculated:

From the quantity of heat, the following equation can be used to calculate the molar heat of neutralisation DRHm:
