Hydrolysis of esters - Digital

LC3.4.1.1C
Hydrolysis of esters - Digital
Hydrolysis of esters - Digital

Description

Esters split in the alkaline into the alcohol and the deprotonated form of the acid. In the case of acetic ethylester, these are ethanol or acetate ions. The reaction can be followed with a conductivity measurement because the acetate ion that is formed has a much lower conductivity than the hydroxide ions that are consumed. With this experiment, the rate of reaction and the temperature dependence of the reaction rate can also be dealt with.
