Humans, fish, algae, fly agarics and bacteria - as different as they are - all consist of a common basic building block: the cell.
Each individual cell is also a small living being in its own right. They fulfil special functions for which they are optimally equipped: for example, the leaf cells of green plants have chlorophyll for photosynthesis or our red blood cells have haemoglobin for transporting oxygen.
The film documents the diversity of the different cell types with fascinating microscope images.
