Description

In the experiment P7.1.2.6, Debye-Scherrer photography are produced by irradiating samples of a fine crystal powder with Mo-Kα radiation. Some of the randomly oriented crystallites conform to the Bragg condition and diffract X-rays into cones for which the aperture angles ϑ can be derived from a photograph. This experiment determines the lattice spacing corresponding to ϑ as well as its Laue indices h, k, l, and thus the lattice structure of the crystallite.
The sensitive X-ray image sensor allows capturing the Debye-Scherrer pattern in one minute and the digital evaluation of the circle diameter and circle integral on the computer, if the powder sample has been carefully prepared and the diffracted rays have a correspondingly high intensity.
