PTM Modulator

Description

Device for the investigation of pulse time modulation methods PDM and PPM. Pulse duration modulation (PDM) is generated from the modulating signal according to the sawtooth method by implementing the intermediate sampling step (PAM formation). A subsequent differentiation of the PDM signal supplies the pulse phase modulation. The information required for the synchronization of the receiver is transmitted together with the useful data for both pulse time
modulations.

The PTM modulator consists of:

  • Input filter
  • sample and hold element
  • clock generator
  • sawtooth generator
  • comparator
  • differentiator
  • pulse shaper

Technical data

  • Sampling frequency: 10 kHz
  • Time deviation: ± 60 % for ± 10 V with respect to the pulse duration when the input signal is lacking
  • Phase deviation: ± 15 µs for ± 10 V with respect to the falling edge of the sync. signal
  • Input filter: approx. 100 Hz...3.4 kHz max. 20 Vpp
  • Supply voltage: ± 15 V DC
