Slit and bar (Babinet’s principle)

LP5.3.2.1
Slit and bar (Babinet’s principle)
Slit and bar (Babinet’s principle)

Description

The students compare the diffraction pattern of a slit with that of a ridge of the same width. They realise that the diffraction patterns of such complementary single slit are the same. This experiment is well suited for subsequently determining the thickness of narrow objects, such as a hair or a pin.
