Automotive Ethernet Video System

Description

This unit contains a video transmission link consisting of a camera, gateway and display. The communication between camera and gateway or gateway and display is done via a two-wire line according to the 100Base T1 standard, which is also known as Automotive Ethernet. Other designations are BroadR Reach or OABR (Open Alliance BroadR-Reach).

The signals on the two-wire line can be examined in a practical manner. Connectable faults enable targeted diagnosis based on detailed project descriptions. And with the help of the diagnostic functions integrated in the gateway, additional troubleshooting strategies can be learned.

The gateway can be connected directly to a PC via the OBD diagnostic interface and allows the configuration of the connected hardware as well as the monitoring of various parameters. It is also possible to record the transmitted Ethernet data.

The following topics are covered in the Lab Docs digital experimentation documents, among others:

  • Design and PoP structure of an automotive Ethernet network
  • Line structure of OPEN (One Pair Ethernet)
  • Video data transmission
  • Comparison of Ethernet (100Base TX) and Automotive Ethernet (100Base T1)
  • Comparison of Automotive Ethernet 100Base T1 and 1000Base  T1
  • Master/slave configuration
  • Comparison of Data bus (CAN-FD, SENT) and Ethernet connections
  • Recording the automotive Ethernet signals with the DSO
  • Investigation of PAM3 modulation
  • Comparison of full-duplex and half-duplex methods
  • Determination of the data transmission rate
  • Latency and real-time data transmission
  • Network monitoring
  • Recording of data traffic between display and camera
  • Extended configuration possibilities of automotive Ethernet
  • Gateway control unit and DHCP server
  • Comparison of IP4 and IP6
  • Software and system updates

  Diagnosis

In order to be able to carry out troubleshooting in a realistic and reproducible manner, two fault switches are provided to switch various line faults. These can be determined with the help of a DSO' or the diagnostic function of the gateway.

  • Investigation of line faults
  • Determination of the signal quality of the automotive Ethernet link
  • Diagnostic access to configuration data via OBD/Ethernet interface
  • Special features of the OBDII interface with Ethernet connection
  • Diagnostics  over Internet Protocol (DoIP)
  • Transmission of Automotive Ethernet test data

The training panel is designed with a two-dimensional, photorealistic and UV-stable colour print, which ensures a clear symbol display. Connections from left to right are provided for the supply voltage T 30, the ignition T 15, CAN High, CAN Low as well as the ground signal for easy connection of further devices.
