Parallel Plate Line with Measuring Carriage

Description

In the experiments the parallel plate line serves in the investigation of the field distribution of TEM and TE waves. The effects of mismatching can be very clearly demonstrated on the parallel plate line. The excitation of the line is carried out through direct radiation from a horn antenna using the Gunn oscillator. For a fixed frequency the cut-off frequency of the TE waves can be changed by adjusting the plate spacing. Detection of the field distribution is carried out using the E-field probe and the measurement carriage. The included accessories make it possible to investigate various basic applications, e.g.: low reflection termination, attenuator, cavity resonator, and interactions with matter.

Design of the Parallel Plate Line
Metal frame with plastic holder for the plate line section. The plates can either be locked at a distance of approx. 13 mm or 23 mm. Guide for the measuring carriage in 2 orthogonal positions. Termination profiles (13 mm and 23 mm) are used to generate a high SWR and the corresponding field distribution can be studied. The wavelengths for TE and TEM excitation can be determined from these measurements.

  • Operating frequency: 9.40 GHz
  • Dimensions: 750 x 470 x 415 mm
  • Weight: approx. 6 kg

Design of the Measuring Carriage
The measuring carriage is required to guide the E-field probe. An integrated electronic displacement transducer facilitates the measurements of the probe's position.

  • Reading of the position shift on mm-scale using vernier scale.
  • Holding magnet is used for attaching the E-field probe.
  • Shift range: 100 mm
  • Dimensions: 190 x 220 x 90 mm
  • Weight: 0.8 kg
