System
Experimental setup of a synchronous generator in isolated operation.
Learning objectives
- Behaviour of a generator
- Set-up and connection of a generator in isolated operation
- Evaluation of measurements and verification by calculations
Features
The machine test CASSY drives the generator at constant speed during these experiments. The amplitude of the voltage can be adjusted via an excitation controller. With this setting, the generator can be characterised.
The student should learn to understand the behaviour of a generator through measurement and evaluation.
Target groups
Students in vocational training in power engineering. Further education in the field of power plant technology in industry. Students of general electrical engineering and power engineering. Advanced level up to bachelor's degree level.
Knowledge of three-phase or alternating current technology is a prerequisite.
Topics
- Measurements of a generator in island operation
- No-load test
- Short circuit test
- Load behaviour of a generator
- Determining the efficiency
