The instructional system „Test and Fault Simulator VDE“ is a compact simulator for a typical home electrical system with various circuits (e.g. ground floor, upper floor) and both AC and DC supply. A fault simulator can be used to reproduce the typical fault sources and analyze them using industrial testing devices.

The model includes a complete residential service entrance box with fuses, residual current circuit breaker, doorbell transformer and current meter as well as various installation components for mains voltage and signal transmission. Consumers, counters and potential compensation devices (including communications technology) round out the system.

The experiment guide prepares the student for independently filling out the completion certificate for the ZVEH (Central Association of German Electricians) in conformance with VDE 0100/Part 610 and VDE 0701 for new and repaired systems. Selective fault simulation (39 realistic faults) is possible using the built-in and lockable fault simulator.

Standard measuring equipment such as Multimeters, protection and isolation testers are used; the results obtained from the VDE mains model correspond to those from an actual residential system, so that the measuring results can be applied to real systems of any size.
Universal usability of the mains model from the 1st to the 4th year of schooling is made possible by the wide variety of possible configurations for the classroom.
