System
The integration of DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) into KNX building automation systems enables comprehensive and intelligent lighting control as part of a holistic smart building concept. The DALI gateway for KNX forms the interface between the DALI lighting system and the KNX bus, enabling the seamless integration of both systems.
Advantages of DALI-KNX integration:
- Central control of lighting and building technology
- Use of KNX sensors for DALI lighting control
- Complex scenarios with lighting, blinds and heating
- Visualisation and remote control via KNX visualisation systems
- Energy optimisation through intelligent system networking
- Presence and daylight-dependent control via KNX
- Professional building automation with standardised protocols
Learning objectives
- Function and task of gateways in building automation
- Configuration of the DALI-KNX gateway
- Integration of DALI devices into KNX projects
- Programming with ETS (Engineering Tool Software)
- Communication between DALI and KNX bus
- Linking KNX push buttons with DALI luminaires
- Scenarios and sequences via both systems
- Troubleshooting in networked systems
Function
The DALI Gateway for KNX connects the DALI lighting system to the KNX building bus. It translates KNX telegrams into DALI commands and vice versa, allowing DALI luminaires to be fully integrated into KNX building automation. The DALI Compact Trainer with two DALI luminaires simulates a real lighting system that can be controlled via the gateway with KNX components. The single-phase connection unit ensures a secure power supply for the entire system.
Method
The equipment is equally suitable for demonstrations and student experiments. The experiments are carried out using an electronic manual and the ETS software for KNX programming. Practical exercises include the installation and commissioning of the gateway, parameterisation in the ETS, the linking of group addresses and the creation of complex lighting scenarios that use both DALI and KNX functions.
Target groups
Vocational training in electrical engineering in trade and industry, especially for prospective electricians, electronics technicians for energy and building technology, system integrators and smart building specialists. The system is particularly suitable for training in the field of professional building automation and for advanced KNX training courses with a focus on lighting control.
