Description

The experiment P1.7.1.2 demonstrates the wave nature of sound. Here, acoustic beats are investigated as the superposing of two sound waves generated using tuning forks with slightly different frequencies f1 and f2 . The beat signal is received via a microphone and displayed on the oscilloscope. By means of further (mis-) tuning of one tuning fork by moving a clamping screw, the beat frequency

is increased, and the beat period (i. e. the interval between two nodes of the beat signal)

is reduced.
