Description

The experiment P5.4.3.1 studies the optical activity of crystals, in this case a quartz crystal. Depending on the direction of intersection with respect to the optical axis, the quartz rotates the light clockwise (“right-handed”) or counterclockwise (“left-handed”). The angle of optical rotation is strongly dependent on the wavelength of the light; therefore a yellow filter is used.
