Alle Säugetiere gehören zu den Wirbeltieren, sind warmblütig und haben irgendwann im Laufe ihres Lebens Haare, auch wenn dies manchmal nur ein paar Borsten sind. Und natürlich besitzen die weiblichen Säugetiere die namensgebenden Milchdrüsen. Der Film zeigt die wesentlichen Merkmale von Säugetieren und warum sie sich erfolgreich verbreitet haben. Begünstigt haben dies v. a. ihre Nahrungsgewohnheiten und das Vermögen zu denken.
